Political Repression back in Mongolia

Political repression back in Mongolia after 18 years of only successful democracy in central Asia, from the Japanese sea to Eastern Europe.

Here is a 23 year old Mongolian student reporting from the centre of action in Ulaanbaatar. I have studied in England for 4 years from 2001. Using my English abilities I thought it was necessary to plea for international attention and support for the free people of Mongolia. Mongolia have joined UN in 1961, and it’s people have the freedom to choose their government, the freedom to voice their thoughts, the freedom protest against the ruling party who have been in Mongolia’s power since the 1921 people’s revolution and singlehandedly performed the Stalin's genocide in Mongolia since 1937, killing more than 30000 people and destroying historical artifacts, monasteries and religious valuables. The party’s history will reveal its true nature by itself. What’s happening right now has been accumulating in the people’s heart and mind since the parliamentary election of 2000. For 8 years the free people of Mongolia have been calmly waiting for the representatives of people who might work for the country and its people in the parliament and finally might bring prosperity. When candidates close to that criteria have emerged in this years election people were eager to see them in the parliament and represent them and voice for them. For 8 years the MPRP has been ruling the government mostly, and it only helped the country to proceed on its downfall as corrupt nation. We were included in the most corrupt nations in the world by the World Transparency agency.
On the morning of 30 June at 3 am, As The MPRP have started publishing preliminary results in just 3 hours since the counting of election votes began, they were already perpetuating news that they are winning seats in all the provinces throughout the country. This I believe was to confuse the public and to let them think that MPRP was winning from the beginning. The sad truth behind this statement was that after making that statement MPRP started influencing the counting process to make their statement a reality. This was just to prepare the public for their orchestrated illegal win. After hearing this statement all the provinces started calling Ulaanbaatar and said that they all voted for Democratic party and was wondering that what they had ordered infact was not the dish they wanted in the first place.
For example, in Darkhan province, Khongor soum had been in public attention due to it’s mineral poisoning. The ruling party had ignored the incident and did not give attention to their people when they were being poisoned in large numbers. So the residents of Khongor soum knew that they should not vote for the candidate named Khayankhyarvaa, who is a member of MPRP, and is solely responsible for the mishandling of the situation in Khongor soum and didn’t do nothing to save them. But to the surprise of many Mr Khayankhyarvaa received the most number of votes from the very soum that he ruined.
The people have in their possession many documents to prove that the election has been frauded by MPRP. Even the Leader of the party Mr Bayar had to fraud in order to get enough votes, when people actually believed that he will get elected by real voters. One competing candidate Mr Lkhagavjav says that 25% of all his votes were fake and that he has documents to prove this fraud.
Competing candidates presented documents to support their case, and voters were out in the street, to prove in person that they didn’t vote for MPRP.
The protest began at 1pm 1st of July, and soon became an outrage of anger and hatred towards MPRP, which has been accumulating for 8 years since the election of 2000. The protesters went on to express their anger, their state of poor life, and their brave belief in their free, democratic future. They voted for who they want. But some people have influence that decision by public in favour of them. This has robbed the people of their freedom to choose their representative in the parliament. Their only way to rule the nation and only once in four years, has been shattered by the MPRP and their alliances throughout the government system, such as state police and supreme court.
In an effort to stop the protest the MPRP summoned police and the army with guns. The crowd didn’t want to get to this point either. They voiced their protest and waited for the MPRP officials to come out of the building and talk to them. They waited for 5 hours and began to destroy the building. Claiming that the building belongs to state and that state is made up of the people who were protesting. They robbed the party of their building given by themselves in return. When the party had robbed the country of its money, its rights, its freedom. To stop the protest the President stepped in to take action. He put the country in state of emergency. This was a necessary step I believe. But it was not necessary to close down all the other media agencies. No other TV stations and TV channels, no FM stations, and no any other available source of media for the public. The only TV to be broadcasted is the national TV. We all know that the TV station serves the MPRP. Since the state of emergency at 0 hours in ulaanbaatar all other TV networks were closed and MNTV stopped viewing live footage. During that space the police and the army have joined forces to disperse the crowd. Instead the killed 5 youngsters by gun, and detained hundreds more. The people who have detained are being forced to accept criminal accusations bestowed upon them. The people who were shot ran to the nearest hospital and died in the entrance hall. The eyewitnesses proved that the army and the police were chasing those people to shoot down. 4 of them were successfully shot. This footage was to be documented by other TV stations and journalists. Now the people have no real footage, no solid evidence of what really happened that night. The only working TV was instead showing Mr Bayar and his followers visiting the protest site and visiting their building. He ordered the police to find who was responsible for the protest and burning of their building. Then he went off to hospital somewhere in ulaanbaatar and met police workers who were injured during the clash. While the protesters who were shot dead are still in the hospital, rotting away, unable to reach even the morgue. The only TV is now reporting the number of dead are 4, and later 3. They didn’t mention the cause of death too. Mr Bayar ignored this fact, and we still don’t know who was shot dead and whether their families are informed. Democratic party leader used his only chance to talk on the TV to express deep regret for the dead and the detained who were being forced to accept false accusations in the jail.
As I watch the TV right now, the MPRP is now talking about their destroyed building and their estimated value for the loss of their building. The people don’t understand how could that be more valuable than the people who lost their lives. The members of MPRP is asking for repayment of their loss. The people want to ask for repayment of their lost boys too, but has no TV to voice their feelings.
The MNTV is broadcasting one sided analysis trying to convince public that the people who protested were not part of the general public and were drunk criminals.
We all understand the situation in Zimbabwe, and feel deeply for the people of Zimbabwe. Today in this world, political repression should have no place to survive. If we act against these atrocities we can stop it, and bring freedom to millions of people around the world. Human right is deeply scarred in Mongolia today. Our votes were manipulated and we don’t even have the right to protest against the wrong candidates, that we didn’t vote for. Please bring our situation to international attention and let them know that we have human rights. Please help us to win our rights back.
This is Idersaikhan Byambaa, 23 years old Mongolian student, who wanted to voice our people, and our new generations’ view to the world. Please voice this pledge to the world. We want UN ‘s support for winning our rights back. We want international organisations to investigate into this matter and report the truth to the world. Thank you for your attention, and reading this far.
